Goettl CEO, Ken Goodrich, Transforming the Lives of Military Vets.
Transitioning into normal civilian life after serving your county in the U.S Navy, can be a very scary step to make. This was, especially, the case with Nick Hughes who did not have a clue which career to pursue. Nevertheless, with a little hope even the impossible can be made possible, especially since Nick Hughes is only two weeks away from completing a two-year course in Southern Nevada College where he studied applied science in air conditioning technology program. All this became a possibility from Nick after being selected for the Post 9/11 Veteran Tools Award, which is sponsored by owner and Chief Executive Officer of Goettl Air Conditioning, Ken Goodrich.
The award sponsored by Ken Goodrich, comes along with other benefits apart from a paid college education. On top being trained, Nick Hughes was also allowed to choose tools worth $1000 worth to take into the next phase of his occupation. Mr. Goodrich, on top of owning Goettl Air Conditioning, also sponsors other worthy causes. For instance, the “Son of A Gun” Scholarship that awards current students from a multiple generation families in the air conditioning industry, and the J. Duncan Goodrich Air Conditioning Technology Lab at CSN.
Mr. Goodrich stated that he had learned, through the cause of his career, that military veterans make very productive employees. He admits that he set up the scholarship to provide opportunities that would help good men and women start out fresh in the HVAC industry. Goodrich would not have made this possible without the help of Dennis Soukup, chair of the department of applied science at the College. The award is now entering its second year, and ever year a graduating student gets a chance of being selected for the award.
Nick Hughes, who served seven years as a cook in the Navy, excelled in the two-year program and is currently employed at a local HVAC contracting firm. Being one who could not even afford the tools that he needed for his career, now he owes it to the Post 9/11 Veteran Tools Award for giving him an opportunity of becoming an active member of the society. Having served with Goettl for many years, Ken Goodrich plans to take what he has learned through experience, and give back to the industry.
